    It can be a little intimidating to step into your first BODYPUMP class. But there’s no need because everyone there has been in your shoes and had that same feeling – and I mean everyone right down to the instructor. LES MILLS BODYPUMP™ is one of the fastest ways to get in shape because it challenges every major muscle group with high reps during each class.

    Here is a little more info to let you know what BODYPUMP Classes are all about.

    What is BODYPUMP?

    BODYPUMP™, is a resistance-based or weight-training group fitness program, created by a company called Les Mills International out of New Zealand. According to LES MILLS™, BODYPUMP™ is: “BODYPUMP™, the original LES MILLS™ barbell class, will sculpt, tone and strengthen your entire body, fast!”

    What can I expect from a typical BODYPUMP class?

    In a typical class you will:

    • Improve your strength
    • Perform 70-100 repetitions per body part totaling up to 800 repetitions in a single workout
    • Improve your general fitness
    • Shape and tone your muscles
    • Protect your bones and joints from injury
    • Get into shape fast
    • Feel confident

    Each class is about 55 minutes (about 10 songs). Each song, outside of the warm-up and cool-down, targets a main area of the body.

    Every BODYPUMP class, no matter where you go (80 countries around the world), will be in this order:

    1. Warm-up
    2. Squats
    3. Chest
    4. Back
    5. Triceps
    6. Biceps
    7. Lunges
    8. Shoulders
    9. Abs/core
    10. Cool-down

    Do I need to know any special moves or use any special equipment?

    The instructor will lead and guide you with what you need to do with your body for each exercise during the class

    These are the various moves that are aimed at targeting every muscle group: deadlifts, deadrows, upright rows, squats, chest presses, clean and presses, tricep dips, overhead tricep extensions, tricep push-ups, bicep curls, plate curls, lunges, push-ups, overhead plate presses, rotator raises, crunches, hovers and stretching at the end.

    You will use a barbell with weight plates, a bench-top with risers and a mat. During the chest and tricep tracks, the class lays back on the bench-top.

    Is it difficult to do?

    What’s great about BODYPUMP is that you make it as hard as you want by increasing your weight as you get fitter. You can choose low-impact moves that the instructor will show you and if you don’t feel comfortable doing a particular move, you can skip it or make your own modification.

    In general, BODYPUMP is a class that has great music and motivating instructors that will lead you through a workout that your body will surely be thankful for. Come try it out.
